Check Your Passports

Please remember that your passport must be valid for six months after travel. Also, you must have at least two blank pages in the visa section of your passport for initial entry.

Travel Vaccination Information IMPORTANT

Please see an email below from Michelle Lister regarding travel vaccination information.  Thank you Michelle for forwarding this info and I recommend everyone to look into their individual particular situation and act accordingly.  This is very important information.  Also check the CDC website for more info.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Hey Tex....while I was reading the paper this morning I saw an ad in the HenHouse circular offering travel vaccination information.  I called them, and this is what they came back with for Haiti:

1.  Malaria.  Oral taken for 2 days before travel, each day during travel and for 7 days after travel.  About $126, but has less side effects than the less expensive one.  She said  people reported weird dreams with the less expensive one.
2.  Tetanus.  Needs to be current on tetanus and they are recommending the tdap which covers pertussis and whooping cough. about $65.
3.  Typhoid, oral that needs to be completed at least 1 wk before travel, but is good for 5 years.  About $51
4.  Flu shot

You need to go through your md and have them send a prescription to the pharmacy.  Hen House 13600 Blackbob, Olathe KS 913-782-2039

Disregard if you've already looked into this.  I just thought it was nice that it was close by...last time I had to do this I had to go to Research Hospital!

Julie Bride's Push Email To Contact Friends and Family

everyone! I'd just like to echo what Mr. Riggs said. We are getting closer and closer to our target total, but we really need to push ourselves and reach out to our family, friends, and neighbors to REACH OUR GOAL. I have written a personal letter that I've asked my mom and dad to send to their families and friends. I am plan on going door to door in our neighborhood to ask for donations--once it gets a little bit warmer! :) If you would like to see the letter I wrote so you can use it as a guide I have attached it! Just note that where I have my name you insert your own name, and where I have my address you put your own address in. Come on guys, let's keep this moving forward and let's reach our goal!!

Castinado In Haiti Over Break

Matthew Castinado, '11, a sophomore at Kansas State University in a pre-med program, went to Port a Prince, Haiti on a mission trip with 25 other Catholic college youth from across the states for a week before Christmas. They helped the Missionaries of Charity by caring for orphans, ill babies, patients with severe wounds as well as built tables and playground equipment while bringing Christmas to their impoverished tent city.

Major League Baseball and H2H / Joplin

Major League Baseball Players Association have pledged $200,000 toward relief efforts for tornado victims affected by storms in the Midwest and Southeast, including Joplin.

The funds fromMajor League Baseball and the players association were donated to Heart to Heart International, a humanitarian organization based in the Kansas City

http://www.joplinglobe.com/local/x783644540/Major-League-Baseball-players-association-donate-200-000-to-help-tornado-victims

This is dated information about the tornado in Joplin but it does add an air of legitimacy to H2H to have the MLB players association donating $200K to the organization.

Post From Julie Bride 1-14-13

Hello, all! Bear with me through this email, it might be a little lengthy but very important and informational. First things first, I would like to update you briefly on how far we've come with the fundraising process. We have raised about $8000--WOW! Second of all, the winner of the Pinkout game ball is Bob Lambrechts!!! We plan on scoring about 7 or so Aquinas goals off this ball ;)

Now, I would like to share with you a bit of upcoming news. Mr. Riggs has spoken with Dr. Ford about the fundraising CPR class on February 16, and he is completely in favor and excited about this community event. He will encourage attendance with an email and discuss it at the next school mass. This class is open to ALL of the public. It costs $25 per person for pre-registration, $35 per person at the door, and it is a first come first serve basis. Spots are, in fact, filling up quickly. However, if you are approaching this class as a family of 4 or more, it costs $75 for the family. Aquinas kids also get service hours if they participate in the class, but remember it is NOT limited to the Aquinas community. We would like to raise money through this class, but it's good to approach it as learning a life saving skill for the future!

As with any fundraising activity, we are dependent upon the generosity of others. Please help us attain our goal and forward this information to family and friends who would be willing to donate--ANY amount of donation is greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much!
Julie Kay Bride, Fundraising Chairwoman
Hannah Kwapiszeski, Treasurer

PS: This class will count as service hours through Saint Thomas Aquinas, as well.
